How to Estimate Gutter Costs: A Step-by-Step Guide

1. Choose a size
Gutters and downpipes come in two sizes, Domestic and Industrial. You can leave the default Domestic size gutters. If you know you want Industrial then you can select Industrial now. You can toggle between the two size options. After you have inserted your measurements, you can see the difference in cost between the two. See our blog post on the benefits of having bigger gutters.
2. Measure the gutters
Next step is to measure the length of gutters you need in meters. You can either use a tape measure or laser measure to get a precise measurement. Another way is to simply pace out your gutters in strides of a meter each.
3. Count the downpipes
Next, you need to insert the number of downpipes you require. A good rule of thumb is to have a downpipe every 8 – 10 meters of gutter. So, for an 8 – 10 meter length of gutter, you would need two downpipes (one on each end)
If, where you need a downpipe is single storey, then include the amount of single storey downpipes in the estimator. Do the same for double storey downpipes.
A quick tip for calculating the number of downpipes on a roof which has many valleys and ridges, is to count the number of outside corners needed, and this number is the amount of downpipes you need
4. Count the corners
Next, you would need to fill how many corners you need on your house. Corners are the joins in the gutter where your roof has either a valley or a ridge. (Valleys are inside corners and ridges are outside corners). Below is a diagram showing corners. Count the inside and outside corners together and include them in the estimator.
5. Choose your warranty
For Warranty, we have left it up to you to choose what warranty you want. We have found that some owners plan on living in their homes for many years to come. Hence, they choose a warranty on their installations up to 20 years. Some may require no warranty. Others choose a very short warranty if they are planning on selling their homes or moving out shortly. We leave the installation warranty up to you.
6. Choose a colour
Lastly, you can choose a colour from our drop down list of colours. (See this link to see sample colours for our products). If you are unsure of which colour you want right now, you can choose any colour. All our colours cost the same.
